Other works include the „Kölner Gedichtles“ (Poems about the daily life in Cologne), 1999.

Josef works as a elementary school educator in Cologne, and as a traveling storyteller. He specializes in stories translated from the French author Pierre Gripari, the American author, Mark Twain, in addition to English authors, Lewis Carroll, Edith Nesbit and J. K. Rowling.

Josef has also translated two of Gripari´s pieces, „Wachtmeister Waldi“ and „Satina Teufelstochter“ (Teiresias Verlag, Cologne) as performance pieces for the theatre (Presented in 1999 / 2000, Cologne).

Josef has written three more children´s plays in the past year, and published them as a book, „Die Kinderlieder-Kompanie“. These include new interpretations of traditional German children´s songs and fairy tales, many nearly forgotten.
This year, 2001, he was working on a Picture book of German poetry, „Beiss mir nur mein Flöckchen nicht!...“, to be illustrated by Lusja Shatalova.

Josef Mahlmeister lives and writes in Cologne, Germany. He has been a member of the French Association „Les Amis de Pierre Gripari“, of Paris since 1995.

He has run his own publishing house since the summer of 1998, Palabros de Cologne. The title also serves as his storytelling Pseudonym.
